Submission Instructions

Submission deadline for oral presentation is March 31, 2018.

To submit for an oral presentation, submitters must follow the oral presentation guidelines below:

•    Oral presentations can be submitted for consideration as a contribution to main topics, any intended symposium and other topics with 15 minutes of speaking time. The presentations should contain results with focus on the main emphasis which are not published until the date of the annual convention, or which give an up-to-date overview of ornithological topics. The author has to be a DO-G member. In case of multiple authors, at least one person has to be a DO-G member. Exceptions to this ruling will be decided by the secretary general.

•    All oral presentations can only be submitted online. In the event of difficulties relating to access, please contact the secretary general of the DO-G (Dr. Ommo Hüppop, Institute of Avian Research “Vogelwarte Helgoland”, An der Vogelwarte 21, 26386 Wilhelmshaven, e-mail).

•    Contributions to the main topics can be submitted in German or English. To the extent possible, presentations with other thematic areas should be in German.
All oral presentations submitted have to include an abstract of maximum 400 words. Abstracts about still ongoing studies only need to general outline the set of problems addressed in the presentation. Accepted abstracts will be included in the abstract book. Please copy and paste the abstract into the appropriate section of the submission form. Further information has to be entered directly into the form. Acceptance or modification requests will be decided by the secretary general; if necessary after consultation with the local organizer and the executive committee.

•    The abstracts and presentations should be kept comprehensible, as the DO-G annual convention addresses a wide range of participants – ranging from hobby ornithologists to university teachers.

•    The classification of the oral presentation is proposed by the author and checked by the secretary general.

•    Please understand that due to organizational constraints, it is usually not possible to give dependable date promises for certain days.

•    As at previous conventions, the advisory board of the DO-G is going to award young speakers. Conditions for participation are that until now one talk at most was given at a DO-G annual convention and that the speaker is not more than 30 years old. The participation can be selected online during submission. The advisory board is going to appoint the jury responsible for adjudication.

Your Oral Presentation at the Annual Convention

•    As the standard procedure nowadays is the application of the software PowerPoint, naturally, the upcoming annual convention is going to provide this medium for oral presentations and video projection. As it is very time consuming, the use of one’s own computer is only going to be possible in exceptional circumstances. Therefore, please save your presentation for the annual convention on a USB stick (in case of necessity on CD or DVD).

Extended Abstract of your Oral Presentation in the Journal „Vogelwarte“

•    Following the annual convention, the abstracts of all presentations are going to be printed in the December issue of the journal “Vogelwarte”. Therefore, authors of oral and poster presentations have the opportunity to submit an extended abstract within three weeks following the annual convention (Submission deadline: October 14, 2018). Extended abstracts must not exceed 600 words, one graphic or table and six references. The additional space should be used for the presentation of specific results and discussion. More details of this will be sent to the authors by e-mail shortly before the annual convention.
