The 155th Annual Meeting of the German Ornithologists' Society will be held from Wednesday, 21 September to Sunday, 25 September 2022 at Gorch-Fock-Haus in Wilhelmshaven on the German North Sea coast. Co-organizers are the Institute of Avian Research "Vogelwarte Helgoland" (Wilhelmshaven), the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg and the Ornithological Working Group Oldenburg (OAO).

The main topics will be orientation and navigation, life history biology (incl. breeding and population biology) and hearing and seeing in birds. In addition, several symposia are in preparation.

The following programme structure is envisaged:

• Wednesday, 21 September: Arrival and informal welcome evening

• Thursday, 22 September: Opening, scientific programme and poster evening at the Gorch-Fock-Haus

• Friday, 23 September: scientific programme and general meeting at the Gorch-Fock-Haus

• Saturday, 24 September: Scientific programme at the Gorch-Fock-Haus, social evening

• Sunday, 25 September: Excursions (expected to Helgoland, Jadebusen/Petersgroden, Wangerooge, Aper-Tief and Vreschen-Bokel)

A "speed dating" meeting is expected to be organized by the DO-G advisory board on Friday evening. Young and aspiring talents can question experienced ornithologists, the latter explaining their own career characteristics, as well as advantages and disadvantages of the career.

The invitation with the preliminary conference programme and the registration documents will be sent to all DO-G members around mid-June 2022.

Registration for the conference will be possible here via these pages or by post.
Registration deadline for participation in the annual meeting is 31 July 2022 - until then early bird rates apply. After that, a late booking surcharge will be charged, and cancellations of the registration will be subject to fees.

Up-to-date information on the DO-G Annual Meeting will be available on these pages. The invitation including the conference programme will also be available here as a PDF download.

Registration of contributions

Registration deadline for oral presentations is March 31, 2022. Poster contributions can be registered until July 31, 2022. This late registration deadline for poster contributions is meant to make it possible to present current results from ongoing investigations, which we expressly encourage.

Interested parties who would like to organize a symposium with up to six lectures of 15 minutes each (+ 5 minutes discussion) are asked to contact the Secretary General of the DO-G, PD Dr. Swen Renner (e-mail), until mid-March 2022.

Also, planned meetings of Special Interest Groups should be coordinated with the Secretary-General by 31 July so that they can be listed in the programme and premises reserved.

The General Assembly will take place on Friday, 23 September 2022 in the afternoon. The invitation with further details will be issued separately.

During the General Assembly, the Secretary General, Treasurer and Secretary are to be elected as scheduled. After two relocations to the virtual world...

...we hope that the 155th Annual Meeting of the DO-G can take place again in presence or at least as a hybrid event. The final decision on the mode will be decided by the DO-G board by mid-June 2022 and all participants will be informed in good time. If the annual meeting is held in presence or hybrid, the then applicable hygiene rules or conditions of participation will be implemented and communicated in good time.

Swen Renner (Secretary General)
