Publish

Publishing is one of the core tasks of the German Ornithological Society (DOG). Through our journals and publications, we make ornithological research visible – transparent, internationally relevant, and of the highest scientific standard. In this way, we create forums for new insights, promote exchange, and share knowledge about birds with the world.

We publish scientific research

Through our two academic journals, the *Journal of Ornithology* and *Vogelwarte*, we publish scientific articles related to the activities of the Ornithological Society—featuring contributions and content gathered from around the world.

We publish information

Through the Bird Observatory’s news section, we provide information on all important aspects of the organization, ornithology, and nature conservation, and offer our members the opportunity to publish their own announcements, draw attention to events or projects, or issue specific calls for action.

We publish statements

Members have the opportunity to write opinion pieces on topics related to ornithology or nature conservation and publish them through the association. In this way, they actively contribute to the professional debate and strengthen the voice of ornithology in the public sphere.

Bird observatory

Vogelwarte is published by the DOG in cooperation with the bird observatories of Heligoland, Radolfzell, and Hiddensee and is issued four times a year free of charge for our members. In addition to scientific research findings in German, it offers a wide range of information, news, and reports about the society.

Journal of Ornithology

The Journal of Ornithology has been the journal of the DOG since 1853 and is thus the oldest ornithological journal in the world still in existence. In 2004, by switching to the English language as the Journal of Ornithology, it made the leap onto the international stage. Successfully positioned, it also gives young early-career researchers a voice worldwide.
