Self-organization
The German Ornithological Society (DOG) is a registered association (e. V.) and sees itself as a free, scientific community that has been self-organized and democratically governed since 1850. Our work thrives on the active participation of all members: everyone has the opportunity to get involved, take on responsibility, and help shape the life of the association. Transparency, participation, and respectful cooperation form the foundation of our work.
Mission Statement
The German Ornithological Society has stood for scientific excellence, openness, and responsibility since 1850. Our mission statement summarizes how we shape research, exchange, and the support of early-career scientists—and how we live as an inclusive community. It provides guidance for our actions and connects tradition with the future.
Bylaws
Our bylaws are the legally binding foundation of the German Ornithological Society. They define how we are organized, what rights and obligations exist, and how decisions are made. In this way, they form the essential structure on which all our association’s work is built – reliable, transparent, and fair.
Gender-inclusive language
Language shapes how we interact with one another. With our editorial guidelines, we rely on neutral and gender-inclusive wording that makes diversity visible and breaks down barriers. We do not want to patronize anyone; on the contrary, we want to invite everyone to participate. Language is an important means of expressing respect and avoiding misunderstandings.
Privacy Policy
Data protection is important to us. We handle all information responsibly and strictly comply with legal requirements – for security and trust. Because even if it is rarely popular, when in doubt, we all still like to invoke our rights.
Insurance coverage in the club
The German Ornithological Society has arranged comprehensive insurance coverage for its members as well as for volunteers and employees.
This covers all risks arising in the course of association activities. This ensures that our members can focus entirely on ornithological work—without having to worry about financial risks.
