Special Interest Group
Acoustic Monitoring
Objectives of the Special Interest Group
The Special Interest Group brings together users of acoustic survey methods as well as anyone interested in the topic—from research, planning practice, authorities, and volunteer nature conservation. We see ourselves as a network and forum for exchange on all questions relating to passive acoustic monitoring: from device selection and recording design to automated analysis, legal framework conditions, and the integration of acoustic data into existing monitoring programs. We want to help move the method from a technical niche into broad application, while advancing methodological minimum standards and quality assurance and maintaining the connection between rapid technical development and ornithological practice. With the discontinuation of the Bioacoustics Special Interest Group, we are also closing a gap in the field of acoustics within the DOG. Regular exchange formats, workshops on technology and analysis, as well as jointly developed recommendations for good professional practice are planned. We welcome everyone who—whether with a recorder in the field, at the classifier, or out of pure curiosity—would like to become part of this exchange.
Main areas of focus
- Advice on audio recorders and possible applications
- Practice-oriented workshops on the operation and use of audio recorders as well as data management and AI-assisted analysis
