EOU-Fledglings Meeting
2026 in Gdańsk
Die Deutsche Ornithologische Gesellschaft (DOG) vergab Reisestipendien für das 5. EOU-Fledglings Meeting 2026, das in Danzig, Polen, stattfand. Nachwuchswissenschaftler:innen stellten auf der Tagung ihre Forschung im Rahmen eines Vortrags oder Posters vor.
Aus Sicht der Organisierenden war die Tagung ein voller Erfolg. Sie deckte ein breites Spektrum an Themen ab — unter anderem Bioakustik, Migration und Ökologie — und brachte Wissenschaftler:innen aus vielen Ländern zusammen. In den Pausen nutzten die Teilnehmenden die Gelegenheit zum Austausch und zur Vernetzung, was die interdisziplinären Begegnungen deutlich förderte.
Ein geselliger Posterabend mit Pizza schuf eine entspannte Atmosphäre, in der Fachgespräche informell vertieft und neue Kooperationen angestoßen wurden. Dank der DOG konnte ein Posterpreis für das beste Poster der Konferenz an Martina Frýbová mit dem Titel „Range size, spread and migratory connectivity as drivers of migratory bird population trends“.
Die anschließende Fragerunde (Q&A) mit den Plenarredner:innen bot allen Anwesenden die Möglichkeit, gezielte Fragen zu stellen und wertvolle Anregungen für ihre weitere wissenschaftliche Laufbahn zu erhalten.
Die gelungene Mischung aus fachlicher Tiefe, internationalem Austausch und informellen Begegnungen hat die Tagung nicht nur als wissenschaftliches Forum, sondern auch als Plattform für langfristige Netzwerke etabliert.

5th EOU-Fledglings Meeting 2026 in Gdańsk (English)
The German Ornithological Society (DOG) awarded travel grants for the 5th EOU Fledglings Meeting in 2026, which took place in Gdańsk, Poland. Early-career researchers presented their work at the conference through oral presentations or posters.
From the organizers’ perspective, the conference was a complete success. It covered a wide range of topics—including bioacoustics, migration, and ecology—and brought together scientists from many countries. During the breaks, participants took the opportunity to exchange ideas and network, which significantly fostered interdisciplinary interactions.
A social poster evening with pizza created a relaxed atmosphere in which technical discussions were informally deepened and new collaborations were initiated. Thanks to the DOG a poster prize was handed out for the best poster to Martina Frýbová for her poster „Range size, spread and migratory connectivity as drivers of migratory bird population trends“.
The subsequent question-and-answer session (Q&A) with the plenary speakers gave all attendees the opportunity to ask specific questions and receive valuable advice for their future academic careers.
The successful blend of academic depth, international exchange, and informal interactions established the conference not only as an academic forum but also as a platform for building long-term networks.
